Heritage Unravelled and Lost,2005
97cm x 72cm.

Free machine embroidery on pieced linen.

The background for this embroidery of the Lattice Girder Gantry at Harland and Wolff was made up of fabric swatches from Rosebank Mill, Flax Street, Belfast, which closed in the 1970's. The fabric swatches were found in a friend's garage in 2005.

The gantry, built by Sir William Arrol to accommodate the construction of the Titanic,  remained in situ until the 1970's when it was demolished, so the embroidery refers to the decline of the Shipbuilding and Linen Industries in Belfast.
